My Review of the Self Magazine Home Workouts

Whether you're looking for a way to stay active during quarantine or you don't like going to the gym (like me), a home workout can be just what you need. Here's my review of the Self magazine's workouts you can do from your living room.

I am always looking for a good home workout! I, personally, don't feel confident going to the gym because I know I'll look a little silly trying to figure out how to use the machines. And, more than that, I'm a homebody. So, the more I can do from my house, the better!


I used to scour through Pinterest looking for something that would actually get me results. And something that I could stick to without it getting monotonous. And then, I came upon the 2019 Self Magazine New Years Challenge. It was a series of workouts, one for every day of January, along with a Facebook group full of people motivating each other. I was ready to try and I committed. And, I did actually see results. A lost a few pounds and gained some definition in my abdomen, if I remember correctly. Both of which would have been greater achievements if I had stuck with it after going back to college, but so that's life.

Anyway, I really enjoyed my experience with Self Magazine. Each day in the challenge has an article written about it that describes the workout and walks you through it. They contain gifs of each move along with a description of how to do it. Some days even have videos of trainers doing the workout so you can do it with them! The workouts were tough but they're full of modifications so you can adjust for your level of skill. Plus, a bunch of them have bonus burnout moves at the end for you to try after the main workout - if you're up for it. I love these because afterwards I feel super accomplished for having taken the extra step.

And all these articles are saved on their website. So, you can go back and try their New Years Challenge or their Spring Challenge, or something else entirely! And all you'll need it yourself, your athletic clothes, and your sneakers! I prefer the Reebok brand for sneakers or Adidas.
