About four years ago - wow, it's really been that long - I had the absolute privilege of taking a trip to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. It was a truly incredible experience and I wanted to share some of my memories of the trip with you!
The trip started out in Quito, Ecuador. The city was so different from any other place I had ever been, seeing that this was one of my first real trips. The section called "Old Town" was enchanting with its brightly colored buildings and narrow cobblestone streets.
Here's a garden we visited within the walls of a gorgeous church. We weren't allowed to take any pictures in there though!
We also visited the equator, and here's a picture of me standing on it! I was even one of the few members of my group to be able to balance an egg on a nail on the equator line - apparently, a very difficult task. I also had one of the most amazing bananas of my life on the equator (the fruit in Ecuador is so fresh!) which reminds me of this photo of an incredible empanada.
Then, we touched down on the islands and, God, was it beautiful. I don't even think that's a big enough word to encompass all that the Galapagos are. In all my travels since I've seen many beautiful things, but there has been nothing quite like the experience of the Galapagos Islands.
Here's the sight of a volcano we hiked up to.
And here are some animal friends!
When we were getting ready to go on this trip so many people kept telling us that it would be the trip of a lifetime, but my 15-year-old self didn't quite understand what that would mean. I have a better understanding now. This trip was truly a gift and it is an experience I will never forget.
